Afghanistan earthquake

On Sunday evening, an enormous earthquake rocked eastern Afghanistan, leveling entire villages and sparking an urgent search for survivors. The earthquake’s epicentre lay within Kunar province – more than 100 miles away from Kabul.

Shaking from this earthquake caused many unreinforced mud-and-brick buildings to collapse, trapping residents within and claiming lives while others tried to flee, according to witness accounts.

The earthquake was a stark reminder that Afghanistan remains vulnerable to natural disasters caused by friction between Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, especially given the war-ravaged nation’s economic turmoil and severe humanitarian needs. Since Taliban forces took power following American withdrawal, disasters such as this one have worsened significantly.

China and India have offered aid, while the US has not responded to requests for help.

Angels outfielder Jo Adell blasted field conditions

After an initially rough start in his professional career, Jo Adell has steadily progressed through the Angels minor league system. While possessing plenty of raw tools, it took him some time to understand all aspects of professional baseball play.

Adell homered in his return from injury on Saturday to give the Angels a win against the Astros and has quickly become an invaluable member of their lineup. Adell may even hit 30 home runs this year!

Adell was particularly critical of the outfield conditions during and after the game, after running into a metal out-of-town scoreboard during left field play and receiving blood on his face as a result. He demanded additional padding be installed as soon as possible to prevent future incidents like his.
