Or take the F2 ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo and stroll up Balmoral Beach’s shimmering glistening sweep and picturesque jetty before continuing north towards Newcastle Beach where art deco Newcastle Ocean Baths can be seen adorning this art deco beauty.

Cities

Melbourne is Australia’s cultural epicenter, boasting an exciting arts scene, world-class museums and an endless supply of hip bars, restaurants and festivals. Additionally, Melbourne hosts some of the country’s top universities.

Yet Sydney remains a global city with an established economy, making it an integral center of finance and technology. Furthermore, it boasts outstanding healthcare and education systems as well as stunning beaches and parks that attract both expats and native Australians looking for somewhere new to live.

Country Life

Australian country life offers a relaxed lifestyle in close connection to nature. Visitors can take pleasure in beaches and parklands, attend community events and try traditional Aussie foods such as Vegemite, ANZAC biscuits and Tim Tams. Australia’s weekend cafe culture also adds another cultural dimension.

Culture

Australia has an immensely varied culture that is heavily shaped by indigenous traditions as well as recent immigration from various nations. This diverse population creates its own distinctive cultural identity distinct from that of British culture from which Australia emerged.

Australians differ from most cultures by being direct and unpretentious in their interactions, as evidenced by their signature greeting “G’day,” which translates directly to “Good day.” They place importance on equality and fairness within society while respecting elders. Australians also tend to avoid physical displays of affection with strangers while often appearing less friendly or emotionally open than many Westerners.

As a result of the gold rush, Asian migrants flocked to Australia, leaving an indelible imprint both culinary and on city sites such as Sydney and Melbourne’s Chinatowns. Musically, early hits by artists like Daddy Cool and the Easybeats demonstrated an urban rock style while during the 1970s an active pub-rock scene resulted in bands like AC/DC who produced lyrics that resonated with Australians on an everyday level.
