Fifty years ago, the United Nations was established primarily to protect future generations from war’s terrors. Today, our world population exceeds 7 billion.

Cuomo, McGreevey and Weiner are all making attempts at making comebacks from various controversies that have dogged them in recent months. Meanwhile, two NYC makeup artists who dreamt of working at Dolce & Gabbana turned into nightmares instead.

Tragedy in Central Park

Central Park serves as an important reminder to New Yorkers that this 843-acre green space was once an arena for battle, as its construction necessitated using sledgehammers, pickaxes and gunpowder to construct it – forcing out residents who lived within its boundaries due to this project – such as African Americans.

On Wednesday afternoon near 96th Street and East Drive in Central Park, a 43-year-old cyclist died after colliding with a pedestrian using a crosswalk and striking them in a crosswalk collision. They were both thrown off their bikes before colliding against curb. While both parties experienced minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

Central Park Five members dubbed by President Trump for their 1989 conviction in the rape of Meili Zhao were exonerated through DNA evidence in 2002 and have always maintained their innocence, filing defamation lawsuits against President Trump for his false allegations that they all admitted responsibility and that Meili died as a result of their attack. In 2024, they filed their defamation suit seeking damages due to Trump’s allegations that all five pled guilty to Meili’s attack before filing suit in 2024 against him, seeking damages due to his statements made during an interview claiming all five had plead guilty plead guilty while other false claims that all admitted participation during an assault that Meili had died during Meili’s attack by President Trump’s false claim of accusing Meili’s death was due to them all pleading guilty.

Rape Crimes in the Five Boroughs

Rape rates in New York City have risen while murders and shootings have declined, which can be attributed to both NYPD’s handling of sexual crimes as well as victims failing to report assaults. Furthermore, NYPD refuses to count possible bias cases within its statistics and the Department of Justice (DOJ) has initiated an investigation as it looks into any bias policing practices directed against sexual assault survivors.

Crime stats from Queens have revealed an uptick in rape cases over a 28-day period compared to last year, particularly within Astoria, Long Island City and Woodside (114th Precinct), yet overall other precincts did not experience dramatic shifts compared to this year; similarly in The Bronx where sexual crimes such as murder, robbery, felony assault burglary and grand larceny auto crimes increased slightly – though overall none changed much compared with previous years compared to previous years!

Transgender Flags Are Missing in Stonewall National Monument

The National Park Service recently removed any mention of transgender people from its website for Stonewall monument, where in 1969 gay and transgender New Yorkers rallied against police raid. This move follows President Trump’s executive order mandating that federal agencies only recognize male or female gender designation.

The Stonewall Uprising marked a critical turning point for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights. It ushered in a modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement by galvanizing collective protest and group organization across class lines and other lines of division.

Former President Barack Obama created the Stonewall National Monument in 2016. This landmark includes Stonewall Inn and Christopher Street neighborhood where an intense riot erupted following a police raid, lasting several nights and lasting into 1969. Last year, an LGBTQ advocacy group Pride Live opened up their visitor center on site – marking it as the nation’s first monument dedicated to LGBTQ+ history.

Teenager Struck by Lightning in Central Park

On Thursday during a severe thunderstorm in Central Park, a 15-year-old high school sophomore was struck by lightning while leaning against a tree, according to police. Electricity traveled through the tree before striking him directly; power then traveled through his metal chain necklace before hitting him directly, sending shockwaves through him before landing him at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center with minor injuries that are expected to heal fully in due time.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. in East Drive Park near East 100th Street, police reported an incident which involved a teenage female who was conscious and alert when emergency medical services (EMS) arrived, sources informed West Side Rag.

One in ten lightning strikes are fatal, yet most victims survive. The National Weather Service warns that lightning can strike even on seemingly clear days; its risk increases if nearby thunder sounds can be heard; open fields and parks are particularly at risk during thunderstorm events. As such, during such storms people should remain indoors to minimize possible fatalities from strikes. The NYPD advises staying away from open areas when thunderstorms come around to keep themselves safe.
