Brisbane Knights FC of Rocklea, Queensland competes in Football Queensland Premier League 2, 4th division on Australia’s soccer pyramid.

The club has been an instrumental component in the development of young Croatian players from Australia’s Croatian community and over 38 of their players have represented Australia at senior international level.

HISTORY

In Ipswich’s rich football heritage, the Knights boast a long and proud tradition. Established in 1998 by merging two powerful Ipswich clubs: Bundamba Coalstars and Ebbw Vale-based St Helens United, the Club now stands on firm grounds today.

On the field, the Club quickly emerged as a powerhouse, winning multiple championships throughout its existence and inspiring several of its early members to go on and represent their State in State of Origin or test rugby league competitions.

2022 was another remarkable year for the Knights, with Dane Gagai marking both 250th NRL game and 100th Knights game, Leo Thompson and Phoenix Crossland both playing 100th Knights appearances, Kalyn Ponga and Jayden Brailey being inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame, Edrick Lee, Jacob Saifiti representing Queensland in State of Origin series with Tamika Upton debuting for first ever Women’s State of Origin series; their NRLW side came third overall qualifying them for finals series play-offs series qualification!

2023 was an exciting season for the Knights, winning both their inaugural Premiership and Grand Final in Football Queensland Premier League 4 – Metro. Furthermore, they earned promotion back into Football Queensland Premier League 2 after taking home both minor premierships for 2022, topping their respective ladders and being declared as champions overall.

Dane Gagai earned selection to both the Kangaroos squad and Players’ Player award, earning both Danny Buderus Medal and Players’ Player awards, with Bradman Best, Phoenix Crossland, Leo Thompson and Kalyn Ponga being chosen to represent State of Origin as well as NSW VB Blues in 2014. Jackson Hastings, Adam Elliott and Jack Hetherington joined Jackson Hastings while Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Jacob Saifiti and Hymel Hunt being extended contracts during 2014.

DIRECTORS

The Knights compete in Football Queensland Premier League 2 (QPL2), Australia’s fourth tier of football competition. Our club provides senior men’s and women’s sides as well as youth teams at every developmental stage.

The club has always played an essential role in the Croatian community, providing many young Croatian players the chance to represent their homeland in senior soccer competition. Many went on to represent their national team or play A-League soccer for Australia.

In 2007, the club established an unusual rivalry with Serbian-backed Springvale White Eagles of Springvale Premier League. Both clubs met twice that season; Knights won both times away; they then crushed Springvale White Eagles by 5 goals at home!

The Knights are immensely proud of their successful Women’s team that competes in the Brisbane Premier League, and of receiving a $250,000 grant from Dutton LNP Government towards building new female facilities in Rocklea.
