Chris Lynn
After an unimpressive BBL|07 season, the Brisbane Heat are looking to reclaim the title in 2016. So far they’ve won two out of their first three matches — including an exciting win against Melbourne Stars — while adding internationals AB de Villiers and Tom Banton as players on their squad. Furthermore, South African skipper Jonassen leads an effective spin bowling attack alongside Kiwi spinner Kerr.
Chris Lynn has been the cornerstone of the Brisbane Heat since they entered the Big Bash League. As all-time leading run scorer in this tournament and an integral component of Australia’s white-ball cricket side, Chris continues to excel for both.
At first it appeared Lynn would leave the Big Bash League abruptly when he decided to sign for UAE International T20 League, but after crisis talks a deal was made that will allow him to play 11 games for Adelaide Strikers before departing for UAE International T20 League; both Cricket Australia and Brisbane Heat supported this agreement.
Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus Labuschagne has quickly won over Glamorgan supporters since arriving from Queensland. A world-class Australian Test and ODI batsman, this charming Queenslander can come on at any time to bowl spin or medium pace effectively while racing around the field when not carrying the ball!
Brisbane Heat fans are in for another exciting cricketing summer as No. 3-ranked Australian batter Mitchell Marsh re-signs with the club for BBL|13 which runs between December 7 and January 24. He has been part of the Heat since its establishment in 2017 and has played 25 matches with them so far.
At Junction Oval on a cold evening in 2018, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne batted for Western Australia against Victoria. Although late to start his innings, once on strike he quickly scored freely using his technically correct style that first earned him an Australian call-up in 2018.
Morne Morkel
Morne Morkel is a powerful tall bowler who can intimidate batsmen with his speed and bounce. One of only five South African bowlers to take over 300 Test wickets, Morkel has also played 117 ODIs and 44 T20 Internationals for his country (Proteas). Although missing the start of BBL due to recovery from ankle surgery, he will rejoin Brisbane Heat once his fitness has been assessed and be available again to play for them.
Ex-South African fast bowler Morkel has joined the Brisbane Heat after receiving permanent residency in Australia and will join after completing his two-week quarantine period, which ends this Friday. Morkel will make his debut against Melbourne Stars in Canberra on December 10, where the Heat’s season will officially commence. Morkel joins English hard-hitting batter Tom Banton and Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman; additionally there will also be other overseas players such as Tom Moody and Lewis Gregory to choose from on their team.
Jimmy Peirson
The Brisbane Heat are the only Queensland-based team competing in Australia’s Big Bash League Twenty20 cricket competition, and possess a distinctive style of play characterized by methodical batting and an effective spin bowling arsenal. Unfortunately, however, they lack express pace which leaves them susceptible to loss of form from international stars.
Brisbane Heat are looking forward to another top-four finish this year and have already earned playoff berths in BBL 04 and BBL 05 under Jess Jonassen’s direction. Their impressive track record has only been enhanced with Mignon du Preez from South Africa joining alongside Bess Heath from England as two new members.
Jimmy Peirson excelled as both a wicket keeper and right-handed batsman at the 2011 Australian Under 19 Championships, leading the tournament with an average of 311 runs and becoming one of its star performers. Since then, he has established himself as an integral member of both one-day and Sheffield Shield cricket with Bulls Cricket Club.
