The Courier-Mail is an Australian daily newspaper serving Brisbane and Queensland owned by News Corp Australia, known for its strong community involvement. One of its key sponsors of the Queensland Literary Awards, it has long been led by Editor Lachlan Heywood while national political correspondent Steven Scott provides national political coverage while editorial cartoonist Sean Leahy draws its editorial cartoons. Additionally, one of its websites boasts among the highest traffic levels nationwide.

The Moreton Bay Courier began publishing in June 1846 as The Brisbane Courier before merging with The Daily Mail in 1933 to form The Courier-Mail. Over its long history, The Courier-Mail has advocated free market economic policies and globalization processes; moreover it supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Courier-Mail began publishing weekly on Saturday 20 June 1846 with four pages, under Arthur Sidney Lyon (1817-1861) as editor, assisted by printer James Swan (1811-1891). Lyon is widely considered the father of Queensland publishing; gradually its frequency increased until by late 1861 it had become daily and, due to its commitment to speaking out on public issues, led Legislative Council members to accuse it of seditious libel; this case was heard before Justice Alfred Peter Lutwyche who vigorously defended Courier-Mail’s cause.

The Brisbane Courier is a daily newspaper in Australia serving Brisbane and Queensland, first published as Moreton Bay Courier in 1846 and later The Courier and Brisbane Courier before merging with The Mail in 1933 to become The Courier-Mail owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Limited and featuring many acclaimed journalists such as Terry Sweetman and Mike O’Connor as columnists; rugby league football enthusiasts Jack Reardon was its senior journalist for 30 years while Tom Linneth became editor at 29.

The Courier-Mail takes a populist editorial stance and covers local Queensland affairs, politics, crime and sports with less conservatism than its broadsheet size might imply; its specialty supplements also cover an abundance of entertainment news stories.

The Courier-Mail relies mainly on local journalists for its local news coverage, while also drawing upon sources from Associated Press and News Corp writers. With a moderate lean toward right-center policies and an anti-Trump bias, they have consistently supported LNP in 26 elections in Australia based out of Bowen Hills in Queensland but distributed throughout Australia – starting as large-sized newspaper but then transitioning into tabloid format in 2006 before expanding reach through digital edition.
