The Brisbane Quarters is a multi-use development consisting of apartments, a hotel, and office tower. The complex is located on the site of the old Law Courts and is bordered by George, Adelaide, and Ann streets. It opened in October 2019 and features a 182.2-metre (598-foot) office tower. Other amenities include a master ballroom, conference facilities, and retail stores.

Andy Murray struggled in the first round of the Brisbane tournament before coming back to beat Mikhail Kukushkin. The British number one will now face Marcos Baghdatis, who defeated Kei Nishikori in the second round. The Australian has beaten Baghdatis five times in the past, winning their most recent meeting in Tokyo last October. The Australian eighth seed Bernard Tomic, who had lost his previous three Brisbane tournaments, also reached the quarters. His victory over Tatsuma Ito, who was a qualifier, lasted just over two hours.
